#FoodieFortnight is the new initiative from the team at Go! Southampton, aiming to get people out and about and eating in some of the wide range of eateries we now have in Southampton. Over the past few years there has been such a surge of new places to eat and drink in the City and as a long term resident its something I am pretty pleased about!
Go! Southampton contacted me to see if I would like to take part in foodie fortnight to see how it all works – I obviously jumped at the chance. I love cooking, eating and all other food related activities!
It’s such a simple process to use and there’s a huge range of venues taking part. All you have to do is go to the Foodie Fortnight website, choose the deal you want and download your vouchers! Honestly that easy! There’s no payment until you get to the restaurant, you just have to take your vouchers along with you – super simple! It runs from 15 – 28 October 2018, so you need to get in there quick!
Something I really like about foodie fortnight is that there are a really good mix of places taking part – large chains and smaller, more independent places too. There’s a huge range of types of food available, from burgers, to ramen, pizzas, breakfast.. you name it, it’s on there! Of course that peaked my interest because having such a wide range to choose from means that there’s plenty of options available for anyone with dietary restrictions, intolerances, or preference. As a vegan, it’s important for me to know that I’m going to be catered for before I commit to eating somewhere!
The venue sections on the website give you a direct link to each website and a list of the terms of each deal – so it allows you to check the menu and any restrictions on days/times before you commit to anything. I honestly think it’s such a great system and a really good way to try out some new places to eat!
I opted for £10 for a burger and beer, from Gourmet Burger Kitchen. I’ve always loved eating at GBK and I knew that they had some good vegan options. In fact, they now have two completely vegan burgers – which even have cheese!
I took my pal Rosie along with me because I know how much of a burger fan she is too. I had the Californian vegan burger which has a bean burger, vegan cheese, avocado, harissa mayo, paprika onions, relish and salad, all in a sourdough bun. It is so nice! I decided to add on the skin on fries to my meal and washed it all down with an ice cold beer – such a good way to spend a Friday night!
I can really recommend Foodie Fortnight to anyone in the Southampton area – it’s a great way to try new places or, just a good excuse to eat out and not have to cook for the night! It runs from 15 – 28 October 2018 – let me know in the comments if you give it a go!
*The Team at Go! Southampton kindly gifted me two free meal vouchers to review the scheme, but all opinions are honest and my own.
