A little life update (September 2018)

It feels like a long time since I have written much about me on here! I know I always enjoy reading other people’s life update posts, because I am a nosy sausage, so grab some snacks – here’s what I’ve been up to!

Another thing I haven’t talked about much on my blog is my distance learning law course. The reason it doesn’t feature on here much is that the area of law I work in deals in a lot of personal and sensitive information which means I can’t really talk about any aspect of the cases I’m involved in. Ok that actually makes it sound way more exciting than it is.. but its not.. promise!

I’ve been working as a Paralegal for many years now and, alongside working law firm hours, running my blog and attempting to have some sort of social life, I’ve also been studying a legal diploma (through the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives if you’re interested). For the past 6 years I’ve had exams every 6 months on a different topic of law and last month I FINALLY passed my last ever exam. We’ve had lots of family celebrations and to say it is a massive relief is such an understatement.

I don’t qualify as a Lawyer until I have finished my Graduate working year (12 months to go!!) and I submit an application – but the relief of not having to spend evenings, lunch breaks and Saturday mornings at the library and with my nose in a law textbook is insane.

I know a lot of people complain about wedding season – taking up weekends, expensive outfits and presents.. but I LIVE for it. I love the love. This year we’ve got so many weddings to go to we actually have a clash, meaning that next week Adam and I are attending different wedding receptions!

The main event for me though, is my close friends Sarah and Dan who are getting married in October. Event more important as Sarah asked me to be her Bridesmaid and I am SO excited. You might have seen some snaps of Sarah’s Mad Hatter Tea Party hen do on my instagram (if not, go take a look – it was beautiful). Last weekend, myself, the other bridesmaids and the mother of the bride all went to try on our dresses at the seamstress – that was super exciting, but made WAY better by the fact that we got to see Sarah in her dress for the first time. Less than 6 weeks to go now and I can’t wait to share the day with them both and their families.

The glorious weather this weekend meant that we went to my mum’s house on Saturday for a family barbecue; me, AJ, my mum and my grandparents. She won’t thank me for this but my Grammy drank a few glasses of wine and by the end of the evening had me in absolute stitches. My mum is an amazing cook and although she hasn’t ventured into vegan cooking yet, the spread she put on was amazing.

I had the Linda McCartney pulled pork burgers for the first time and they were delicious. We had breads, dipping oil, salads, potatoes, baked mushrooms, burgers, cake and fruit salad. Oh and wine. Lots of wine. Another plus side is that AJ and I only live about 15 minutes away from my mum’s house so we were able to leave our car there overnight so both of us could have some drinks!

We finally got round to booking our holiday a few weeks ago and its now less than 2 weeks until we head off to sunny Spain! It’s been a while since AJ and I went on a lay-in-the-sun holiday for just the two of us so I am really excited about it.

The aim of the holiday is simple – tan, lie in the sun and eat and drink as much as we can.

We’ve even scored from extra adulting points by booking a hotel for the night before so we can have a relaxing evening and not have to wake up at silly o clock to catch our morning flight.

This is your advance warning – in two weeks time the holiday spam will commence.

Something I wasn’t ever expecting to be able to put into a blog post is that AJ and I have started going running together! I have taken part in loads of running events over the years so although I’m no Pro, I am a fairly experienced running. AJ has never been a runner, but gets his cardio fitness from playing football a couple of times a week and from drumming (when on tour).

He decided that he wanted to try and up his fitness again so I agreed to go with him every Monday. As much as I whinge and groan whenever he drags me out of the house after a long day at work, or in the rain, I actually really enjoy it. We don’t exactly chat while we’re running, but it’s nice to do something just the two of us that involves getting out of the house and into the fresh air!

We’ve been tracking our progress on Strava (search: Nicole Causey – if you want to see our updates!) and having Monday night as salad night – now called the Monday night salad club! AJ has stuck to it so well and has been running around 15km a week, although I’m sticking to 5ish per week as I already do a lot of exercise!

And that’s about it, for now! Bit of a long one. If you’ve done a life lately post I can nosy at, let me know in the comments and leave your link!
