Stable Southampton recently invited the Southampton Bloggers gang to visit them for an evening of trying out their menu and taking part in the cider tasting they offer.
Stable is actually one of my regular go-to places for vegan pizza in Southampton anyway; it happens to be really close to where I work (excellent for team lunches) and they have a decent vegan menu – I am learning these are often few and far between, since going vegan this year. The vegan menu includes garlic bread, a couple of pizzas and some incredible vegan brownies.
I was really intrigued by the cider tasting part – I had never thought of giving it a go, even though its something they offer at their restaurants. I love cider and my favourites are usually the ‘traditional’ ciders; cloudy and still with a bit of a kick! There are different packages for cider tasting, which you can find here. They range from an introduction, to an ultimate cider experience which includes nibbles, ciders, pizza and brownies, all for £30 per head.
If you haven’t been before, the interior at Stable is lush; big open industrial spaces, paired with wooden benches, candles and some great artwork on the walls. Their menu was updated a few months back so it was a great time for us all to pop down to see what they had to offer. They now have a few restaurants dotted around, but each one has its own menu with ingredients sourced locally to each one – its great that they have expanded but kept in mind the local aspect.
In the cider tasting we had a score sheet and our lovely Cider Master, Ellie, was on hand to talk us through each of the ciders. She really knew her stuff about the flavours, strengths and how they were all made, which is great because I am a complete cider newbie! My favourite actually ended up being the first one that we tried, which may be a reflection of the fact that I drank a fair bit of cider.. ahem.
They also put on a spread of “sticks and dips” for us (also vegan) so that we could quell the inevitable munchies that come with afternoon drinking! [side note: we had small glasses of each cider.. we’re not that irresponsible.. mostly]
It was such a lovely afternoon and a great way to catch up with some of the other Southampton blogger ladies. The food was absolutely delicious and I loved getting to know more about the ciders, so I can go back and have my favourites again in the future!
Stable also have an app now which is free and, if you use it order food, you can get 20% off your order – winner!
Has anyone else tried the cider tasting? What did you think?
