This year, All Bar One were official partners of Veganuary, meaning that their bars had a special separate vegan menu, including wines and spirits. I was so excited to hear about the menu as I’d wanted to try the new All Bar One in Southampton anyway and since I went vegan, I’ve been on the hunt for great places to eat out.
I didn’t find the time to go in January, but luckily they extended the menu through to February as well! I managed to get there on the last day (oops) to try out some of the options.
I had the mushroom tempura to start – portabella mushrooms in a light tempura batter, with a sesame and miso dip. This was i n c r e d i b l e. The batter was so crispy and delicate and the dip was delicious, really creamy and it paired perfectly with the mushrooms. For my main, I had the Greens and Grains; a combination of chopped spinach, quinoa, brown rice, broccoli, soya beans and a lemon oil dressing. The bowl was huge and I actually struggled to eat it all!
The desert menu is a bit more limited, but there were two really yummy options. I had coconut and vanilla rice pudding with blueberry compote. This was also really delicious and the blueberry compote on top cut through the rice pudding flavour to stop it from being bland! The other option was a sorbet, but I had to avoid it because I have really sensitive teeth – ice cream and sorbet is a no for me!
I absolutely loved all of the food I tried and my mum, who isn’t vegan, had the “ultimate burger” and really enjoyed it. It was really refreshing to try something other than just another bean burger!
Although the separate vegan menu has finished now, I checked out the main menu and was really excited to see that some of the vegan options have made their way over (including those mushrooms!!) and are hopefully there to stay! You can check it out here. Hopefully more restaurants will follow suit with some decent staple vegan options!
Has anyone else tried the food at All Bar One? What did you think?
