I had been waiting to visit Lakaz Maman since it opened and [spoiler alert] it did not disappoint.
First things first; when it comes to posts about food, pictures are a must:
Ok so that last one was just me rubbing your noses in it a little bit. Sorry not sorry.
Lakaz Maman is Mauritian Creole for “Mum’s House” and it totally fits the bill. Owned by Shelina Permalloo (Masterchef winner, 2012) the restaurant is relaxed, airy and bright. The menu is small (something I love) and the atmosphere is great; we sat and chatted and picked through our food and left with full, happy bellies.
My favourites were the Gateaux Piment (crunchy chilli balls) and the Mango, Lime and Chocolate Slice for desert. The Maman Sheila’s Samosas were great to nibble on and I paired mine up with the Mango and Lime ice tea.
It started to get busy as we were about to leave, so I recommend booking a table (£5 deposit per person). You can see more about the restaurant, and about Shelina here, as well as having a nosy at the menu.
The food was actually very reasonably priced; with starters, mains, desert and drinks we spent just under £40.00 between two. Overall, I loved the food and the atmosphere and I’ll definitely be going back soon!
Has anyone else tried Lakaz Maman yet? What did you think?
