Why I changed my blog name

You may have noticed a few changes around here!

I thought long and hard about what to name my blog before I even got close to setting it up. It was one of the first things I wanted to get straight. I read other people’s blogs and advice online and tried to think of something that was really ‘me’. I wanted something that was original, a bit quirky, but not too wacky (I am just not wacky, in any way shape or form).

Jeans and a Jumper came about from a long standing joke between AJ and I. Jeans and a Jumper is my staple outfit. By staple, I mean pretty much all I wear. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing outside of office attire hours, it is very nearly always jeans a jumper. Do I want to write that phrase any more? JEANS AND A JUMPER.

Anyway. Every time we are getting ready to go out somewhere together, the routine is the same. I shuffle up to our wardrobe, have a sift through my clothes, sigh and say to AJ “what shall I wear” (note: I do not actually listen to any of what he suggests). His reply is always a micky take and reference to jeans and a jumper. Cue eye roll from me and then doing exactly that.

So the name fits me pretty well. But. Have you ever tried googling that name? I have. It doesn’t look good. As well as being a very overused phrase and thus page rankings are a distant dream, another blogger actually got there first and pinched the domain name I wanted. Goodbye anything mildly useful on Google analytics.

I knew that I needed to act quickly to change things over if I was going to do it. You may remember from my first blog post that I really wanted to commit to blogging and to try and engage with the blogging community – but there are a lot of downsides to working hard to promote and post good content, to then suddenly change the name later down the line. Its a tricky balance; but there’s no time like the present.

So here she is. A lot of tweaking and domain changing and account updating later – becausenicole.com. Hopefully this one is here to stay! I’ve made a few little colour tweaks to match my new header (the photo was taken at the beach where we walk Archie), although I may end up changing the design completely  -What do you think?
